Berlin – City of Lights

1 11 2007

Paris may be usually known as the city of lights, and it is true that most cities look more impressive when night falls, but this year we got a special treat, and came to Berlin during the third annual Festival of Lights.

         Festival of Lights.

The festival took place between the 16th and 28th of October. It included more than 40 sights, squares and buildings all over the city, among them the Brandenburg Gate, Victory Column, Berliner Dom, the TV Tower and many more. They were all illuminated by light artists. It also included various events, light shows, fireworks and midnight weddings. And I tell you, it was impressive. But why tell, when I can show…

Berliner Dom illuminated. Another picture of Dom.
The TV Tower and lights. Victory Column and Radio Tower.
Brandenburg Gate. An illuminated building.

I also learned that on the day we left, the 29th, which was one day after the Festival ended, the Brandenburg Gate and Hotel Adlon in Pariser Platz were illuminated in pink and black & white, as a part of a campaign to raise awareness of breast cancer, integrated into this year’s Festival of Lights.

And here you can find the website of the Festival. And of course, there is a photographs competition, the details of which you can find in the website. As you can see below, many people took a shot at this.

Hoards of photographers.
